The Joy of Sadness (in progress) By Dr. E aka Everett Louis Ph.D.
Sadness is a part of life, a teacher and necessary companion to joy
When I create a song or a visual art piece, it starts with inspiration, often from my own kids or my students. I allow myself to be as open as possible, ignoring limitations - what I can or can't do, what is or is not realistic. I start like a writer doing a free write, avoiding the temptation to edit, then I work my way up to a solid form. Then comes the editing process, adding and removing detail and focusing the work like a sculptor. Though I would love for all of my art to be perfect in the end, it rarely (if ever) is. But what is most important to me is that the finished product tells a cohesive story...preferably one that someone hasn't heard before. - Dr. E
