My Process of Turning Trash into Kid Friendly Art Creating "E.T. Stay Home" by Dr. E
PHASE 1: I begin with a concept inspired by real world issues. For me, the concept has to be fun and accessible to both kids and grown ups. I will often sketch the concept as pictured below.
PHASE 2: I gather materials considering function and aesthetics. I will might save interesting pieces for months before creating.
PHASE 3: I build individual parts and find new materials as I work towards a complete form.
PHASE 4: I attach all individual parts together and reinforce the structure with scraps. At this stage I will often introduce new materials for additional style and functionality. Durability is key and cardboard is my friend.
